AI and data centers are taking our jobs and spying on us while driving up our utility prices and poisoning our water.
Fossil Free California is co-leading a statewide coalition called "Stop California Data Centers" which calls for a statewide moratorium on California data centers and uplifts local anti-data center campaigns.
Statewide Anti-Data Center Campaign
We are organizing to introduce a statewide data center moratorium in early 2027! This is a monumental moment of standing up to Big Tech on the industry's home turf. Until recently, California and specifically Santa Clara county was home to one of the largest data center clusters in the world. Now, the Big Tech industry is exponentially increasing their political spending in California in an effort to buy out our democracy to ensure their dominance.
We are pushing back by introducing a people-powered campaign to say no to tech's invasion of our communities to protect our jobs, air, water, and safety.
Stop AI Data Centers Alameda County
We're also organizing to stop AI data centers in Alameda County and the city of Oakland!
We were leaders in a coalition that pushed Oakland to pass a data center moratorium on October 7th. Now we are campaigning for an extension of the moratorium and ultimately a ban on data centers in Oakland.
We are also laying the groundwork for an Alameda County data center moratorium to prevent data center development in the numerous unincorporated areas of the county.
